Summer is still here
The heat and humidity have returned this week. We have been lucky to miss any heavy downpours and have just seen two events drop 2 tenths of rain each early in the week. The humidity has made for some beautiful sunrises.
The bermuda greens are hitting their stride now after last months aeration. Another sand topdressing, brush and roll went down Monday.
The Champion has responded nicely to the rains and heat. The right weather combined with topdressing and growth regulators has produced some slick green speeds this week for our 1 day Member Guest and the City Amateur final on Sunday.
Besides just keeping the grass cut our largest project over the past two weeks has been applying pre-emerge herbicide to prevent Poa annua germination. This application goes across the whole warm season property at a miniscule rate of 3 ounces of product per acre. All 225 acres are covered 8 acres at a time with our two 300 gallon sprayers.
The South team (mainly Jackson) continues to push high traffic areas and poor soil areas from construction with fertilizer. These applications have made a huge difference this year and producing a more consistent rough turf.
Matt Danen made his way around to trim up some of the more unruly native areas with the ventrac this week.
James Radcliff and his Clubhouse Grounds team put in some work next to the new Golf Shop storage area project this week. This is a much better use of space here all around and looks like it has always been there!
We wished Conner Reynolds well today as he rotates back to school after a few years as Irrigation Technician assistant here at Carmel. Conner is jumping right in to 7 classes for Construction Management so along with his two young kids he is going to have his hands full. Thanks for keeping us dialed in this year and good luck Conner!
The rains and humidity have helped get things shaped up as we head into tournament season and the fall. This will still be a pretty gross stretch for the bentgrass with nightly lows in the upper 70's for a while but we will keep pushing on. The days are getting shorter and the Halloween candy is already out for sale. Enjoy the weekend!
