The difference a week makes

Almost 4 inches of rain has come out of the sky since last Thursday. There is no debate that we needed some moisture but the real welcome was some of the humidity that came along with the rain. Our warm season is finally being encouraged to green up and clock in for the growing season now.

That was around 7 different rain events in the past week which kept us plenty busy repairing and grooming bunkers as a few of the storms came down at a rate close to 2" of rain per hour.

This is the highest we have seen the creek get since last August when 6" dropped in.

This overflow area between 13 South and down between 7 and 12 could use some work this winter to encourage a better route to the creek.

The college guys cleaning out the overflow in preparation for the next storm and adding to their resume.

Definitely some challenges in keeping this lake clean!

The pushmowers came out early in the week while we waited for a dry 24 hours in order to get the big machines out.

The greens were edged for the first time this year as the turf gets moving. We will do this a handful more times to try and keep the respective turfs where they belong.

The bentgrass greens are well into their two week schedule of having fungicide washed into the profile to defend against summer decline and root pythium. At the same time gypsum and potassium were applied and watered in as well.

The fan poles have started to make their way out around the bentgrass greens as well. With humidity rising the fans will start to play a huge role in keeping these greens healthy through the summer.

The Champion bermuda greens looked beautiful in the mornings this week with the higher humidity. Each inch of rain carries about .1 pounds of nitrogen which in general is what we would apply to these greens every two weeks. While we are seeing a small flush of growth thanks to the rain our spray program should help keep growth moderated and our focus will remain on putting quality through the summer.

We had to wait an entire 7 days to get the mowers back on to the fairways after all the rain. Overall they cleaned up nicely today and will get mowed again, along with everything else on Friday. Enjoy the sun today and hopefully these storms will start to spread themselves out a little more as we get in to summer!
