Spring is headed our way quickly

The skies have opened up again but not before another drainage project was completed, this time at the beginning of 8 South fairway. About 350 feet of new french drain was connected to existing drain basins to help dry out this highly trafficked area.

The guys have the new trencher dialed in and it is making this job much easier by tossing excavated soil straight into the trailer. Only small touch ups are needed before the trench is ready for gravel, pipe and sand. This large project was buttoned up before lunch on Wednesday this week.

The old trencher was still working this week and was used to move the fan base on 15 South. This fan is now in a better position to keep this green cool through the season. New wire was run from close to 16 tees across the back of the green surround and to the new location at the back right of the green.

The bermuda definitely tried to wake up a bit last week before it was met with sub 30 degree temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. The wind helped keep the frost off the plant so the mowers ventured back out and cleaned up the surfaces nicely on Wednesday. Temperatures are going to climb quickly now and we really do not see any frost events on the horizon.

The South greens got a quick dusting of sand in front of the rain on Tuesday. We may get one more light topdressing in before these greens are aerated on March 16th. More to come on that next week.

Tree work is slowing down as winter fades away but we did make time to remove the first grove of unsightly trees here left of 5 North. A drain was also added here this week to help water move into the stream and the area was sodded to bermuda. Cleaning some underbrush on rest of this stream bank on the #6 side is certainly on the list but is more likely to happen this fall.

The birds are out and singing with the subairs! We are ready to get some grass to start growing!
